Friends of the Rainforest (FoR) and the Montessori Institute for the Science of Peace (MISP) have joined forces to develop a 7-10 day experiential education program in Costa Rica for school groups with adolescents or upper elementary (second plane) students.  Biodiversity and Peace is a comprehensive learning experience combining a holistic natural history and tropical science research approach to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest (CER) with the fundamental values of peace.

biodiversity

At 23,000 hectares and spanning 7 of Costa Rica's life zones, The Children's Eternal Rainforest (CER) is one of the region's richest and most pristine tracts of forest.  In a world continually under threat from development and facing significant climate change, our local scientists, educators, and naturalists need your help to document the unique biodiversity of the CER and to share this information with others.  This transformative experience centers upon a 4-7 night stay at one of the two research stations in the CER.

As part of the overall trip to Costa Rica groups are encouraged to include 2-3 days engaged in visits and experiences in and around the communities associated with  the United Nations-mandated University for Peace.  Not only will students learn about peace by interacting with UPEACE students and faculty, but they will also experience some of its key tenets with site visits to NGOs and socially responsible community-based programs.

We hope to be adding additional content soon (e.g., maps, images, data, detailed itineraries and activities), so continue to check-in with us from time to time or contact us for more information.
